A funky new EV brand lands in Mzansi
iCaur — a new "new-energy" lifestyle brand under the Chery Group umbrella, alongside Omoda & Jaecoo, Jetour and Lepas — has officially launched in South Africa. Its debut model, the boxy, retro-styled V23, positions itself as a youthful, highly customisable alternative to the sea of conservative SUVs on the market, with a wide range of colours and wrap options available. The V23 measures a compact 4 220 mm long on a 2 735 mm wheelbase, seating five with 372 litres of boot space (994 litres with the rear bench folded).
The V23 launches in two flavours. The entry RWD uses a single 100 kW/180 Nm motor paired with a 59.93 kWh LFP battery for a claimed 360 km NEDC range, doing 0–100 kph in a claimed 11.0 seconds. The range-topping AWD adds a second motor for a combined 155 kW and 292 Nm, drops the 0–100 kph sprint to 7.5 seconds, and uses a larger 81.8 kWh battery for a claimed 430 km NEDC range.
