The headline

SA's cheapest electric SUV, by a wide margin

The Dongfeng Vigo has landed in South Africa, and it's rewritten the price floor for electric SUVs. Known as the Nammi 06 in China and sold under various names abroad, the Vigo starts at R499 900 — a full R200 000 below the previous cheapest electric SUVs, the BYD Atto 3 and Geely E5, which both retail from R699 900. It's also the third cheapest EV in South Africa overall, behind only the BYD Dolphin Surf (R341 900) and Dongfeng's own Box hatchback (R459 000). The Vigo is Dongfeng's third model for SA, following the Box and the upmarket 007 sedan.

Dongfeng Vigo — exterior side profile

Both launch derivatives share a single front-mounted electric motor producing 120 kW and 230 Nm, enough for a claimed 0–100 kph sprint of 7.8 seconds — brisk for a budget SUV. The entry E1 uses a 44.94 kWh LFP battery for a claimed 401 km on the CLTC cycle (closer to 300 km on the stricter WLTP standard), while the E3 steps up to a 51.87 kWh pack for a claimed 471 km CLTC. DC fast charging tops up 30–80% in around 30 minutes.

What's the real-world range like?
